Emergent Writing

Emergent writing plays a huge role on how we approach the theory behind writing. We know and want to respect each child’s process, understanding that no one child creates the same way. With this we set out loose parts in order to give each child the opportunity to express their own ideas through tracing and pattern making. We also place out block letter or, their name tags as they begin to recognize their names and letters. This is the foundation of writing. Writing often time begins with the building of words through loose parts. Fine motor ability is exercised through the use of an array of parts when building letters and in return strengthens pencil grasps abilities. The use of loose parts strengthens fine motor abilities, when using manipulative objects children are provoked to test multiple methods of balance and control. This plays the role of a stepping stool into writing. Each child's style and method will be different, we must be mindful to respect the process over the product.
